The Translation Studies Initiative at Rutgers fosters intellectual and creative exchange among students and faculty engaged in making, analyzing, and conceptualizing translation across the Humanities at Rutgers University. The initiative serves as a dynamic and collaborative home for the diverse interdisciplinary work happening across campus and hosts new and cutting-edge dialogues, projects, and conversations about, in, and on translation.
In 2023-24, we will offer long-standing and new undergraduate and graduate courses on translation; language and literature departments across the Humanities will welcome speakers and practitioners to talk about the craft of translation and the profession; and our faculty and graduate students will present their current work on and in translation here at home and around the globe. We're excited to welcome the launch of the new Korean Humanities Library series with Rutgers University Press, as well as enjoy the press' continued work on the new and flourishing Other Voices of Italy Series (OVOI). And the Initiative is thrilled to offer this year our first small-fund grants to support the exciting work on translation happening across Rutgers.
Among other events in Spring 2024, we look forward to celebrating our 6th annual Translate-a-Thon (23 February); to hosting the XI biennial conference of the American Translation & Interpreting Studies Association (ATISA; 5-7 April); and to discussing Radical Translation in a collaborative, online symposium (March-May).
